There have been 2 mandatory changes for Illinois in 2021. The first is the minimum wage rate (this was changed in January) and the second is the recent update to the Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA).

Illinois Minimum Wage Rate Update (January 2021)

Illinois minimum wage rate has increased to $11.00 per hour effective January 1, 2021 for employers with 4 or more employees. Tipped employees must be paid at least 60% of the minimum wage. This notice also covers provisions in overtime wages, unpaid wages, equal pay, rest periods, and child labor. It is a summary of laws regarding employment rights. The next minimum wage increase will be effective starting January 1, 2022.

Illinois Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA)

The Illinois VESSA poster has been updated. This poster details the employees’ rights to unpaid leave if they are experiencing incidents of domestic, sexual, or gender violence and how much leave is permitted is based on the number of employees. The update includes additional information and expands the protection to victims of gender violence, along with accommodations that the employee is entitled to, and prohibiting employers from discriminating or retaliating against employees for requesting VESSA leave. This poster was updated March 2021.
