  • Under Rhode Island law, employees and applicants are protected from discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and related medical conditions.
  • Workers have the right to request reasonable accommodations, including but not limited to time for expressing breast milk or managing symptoms such as vasomotor effects.
  • Employers may not:
    • Refuse a reasonable accommodation unless it poses an undue hardship on business operations.
    • Force an employee to take leave if another reasonable accommodation is available.
    • Deny job opportunities due to the request or need for a reasonable accommodation.
